Benchmark

It's unlikely that Mike Holmes and Jim Caruk will be dropping by, on the basis of this project, to invite me to be a contestant on the Handyman Superstar Challenge (but I would so love to meet them!). Nevertheless, I'm pretty pleased with my new potting bench which I built all by myself today.

Love at first sight!

This is almost enough to make me want to dust off my ancient, but still valid, motorcycle license! Made in Italy by Piaggio, this MP3 scooter sells in Canada for $9,000. Evidently it has been for sale here since 2007 but this is the first one I've seen. What appeals to me is the two wheels in the front and its nice looking too.

Almost too beautiful to eat

Picked fresh this morning from Stewart's and my "community garden". Upon giving it to me, Stewart said to me, "Isn't this a wonderful time of the year!" I couldn't agree more!

Ottawa's newest money grab

Effective today, the City of Ottawa has a new by-law which requires property owners to get a permit from the city (at a cost of course!) to be able to cut down trees on their own private property. However, as you can see they have no qualms about letting developers remove all the trees from a lot in order to build new doubles (called infilling) on which a huge double house sits on 25 feet of road frontage and there is not a piece of land left where the new home owner can even consider planting one tree. The city is also unable, on these infills, to plant a city tree. Check out this one around the corner from our place - I counted thirty trees cut down for this new home.
